• Married secondly (on 19 September 1882 in High Cross, Ware, Hertfordshire), Alice Henrietta Giles Puller (1852-1930).
• Died 25 April 1921, aged 77.

"After the funeral we left Buxton, and spent the remainder of July at Matlock; Aunt Fannie was with us, and two of her children. August at Retford, in Nottinghamshire; and September at Southwold, where Uncle Claude Thornton, and your Aunt Fanny his wife, then lived at the Vicarage. She was a very fine woman, both in looks and in character; and her five children were of the same ages as our, from Jack to Jessie.
